Does Good Chick Lit Make For Good Chick Flicks?

When I decide what to read, sometimes I’m drawn to dark Gothic stories, other times it’s to sci-fi mindbenders, or, when I’m feeling really crazy, I’ll browse through the action thrillers. But I always come back to chick lit. The reasons are clear: The stories are funny, the perfect couple always end up together, and I can relate to the characters. These are the same reasons that I enjoy watching chick flicks.

But sometimes, between the pages of the book and the big screen, something gets lost. Maybe the story loses focus, or the actress playing the lead character is all wrong. Many people groan in annoyance when they hear that their favorite bit of chick lit is being turned into a film. They feel that the story will be ruined, and they are adamant that they won’t watch that particular chick flick.

I, on the other hand, am not so quick to judge. Granted, there have been a few bombs, cases where the book was outstandingly well done, and the movie was anything but. Yet there have also been book-to-big screen projects that came out perfectly. Authors have terrific ideas, and if the author can be involved in the production of the movie, it’s bound to be a success. There are so many fabulous novels out there, so many amazing series of books, that would make for excellent movies, and I would love to see that happen. The stories are happy and fun and should be shared with everyone.

I like to immerse myself in the story. I like to know the characters, know the ending, and feel like I’m somehow part of that world. So I greatly enjoy reading chick lit and then watching it come to life right before my eyes. For that reason, I believe that chick lit always makes for good chick flicks! The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: Chick lit gets a makeover
